Cowslips are the leading prosthetic device for treating lameness in New Zealand dairy cows. Developed in the UK by Dr Ernie Logan in the late 1980s, Cowslips are now trusted and widely used by farmers and veterinarians around the world. Original is suitable for Jerseys, Guernsey's, Heifers and Ayrshires.
Before application, lift and clean the hoof, ensuring the cause of the lameness is correctly identified. The Cowslip should always be fitted to the healthy claw after any necessary treatment of the affected area. Applying the Cowslip to the sound claw relieves weight-bearing pressure on the damaged claw, allowing it to heal naturally.
Once fitted correctly, the Cowslip will remain securely in place and will shed naturally after two to three weeks, by which time recovery is typically complete.
